Geographe Western Australia

Our Vineyard

Our Valley

In the heart of the Geographe wine region sits a 20 hectare pristine parcel of land surrounded by majestic tall Karri and Jarrah forest on three sides. The land is split by a gully through the middle with a source of natural water feeding our dams all year round. At an elevation of more than 200m above sea level it is a valley on a hill.

Dr Jim Watson decided to plant vines on the block 35 years ago after it was chosen as a perfect area for producing fruit for making wine. The vines today are 35 years old and represent some of the earliest vines planted in the region and are sourced from the earliest varietal clones. The varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Over the years the block has produced award winning Cabernets, Cabernet blends, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. Following the passing of Dr Watson the parcel of land remained maintained until we purchased it in 2019 and began to make it productive for winemaking. Zein Estate is on a path to reproducing some of the highest quality wines in the region.

We welcome you to enjoy a glass of our wine and share in the purity that this land has to offer. From my family to you!

Zein Estate

Chardonnay

Two blocks

Our Chardonnay fruit is a thin-skinned variety. We have two blocks of Geographe Chardonnay each with their own characteristics and produce exceptional wines due to the varying microclimate conditions.

The cooler block produces a wine lighter in body with a higher acidity and the warmer block produces a wine which is full-bodied with richer tropical fruit notes and bolder flavours.

Our Chardonnay gives us the flexibility to oak ferment for 12 months with malolactic fermentation or is fermented unoaked to give a vibrant fresh style for early drinking.

Notes: subtle oak, pear, peach, grapefruit, apple, citrus, buttery, toasty
Pairing: chicken, fish, shellfish such as crab, lobster and prawns

Zein Estate

Sauvignon Blanc

Flamboyant

Producing a large canopy and thriving in sunny conditions, our Sauvignon Blanc Block is orientated in an East-West direction and enjoys the cooler nights to slowly develop its unique characteristics. It is a relatively early ripening variety.

Our Geographe Sauvignon Blanc is bursting with fruit and produces a fresh, crisp and vibrant wine with a juicy mouthfeel due to its natural acidity.

Notes: Passionfruit, citrus, Grapefruit and subtle oak with vanilla undertones.
Pairing: Cheese such as goats and fried Haloumi, light creamy pastas, chicken, oysters and shellfish.

Zein Estate

Cabernet Sauvignon

Bold & beautiful

Cabernet Sauvignon is a cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc originating in South West of France, Gironde.

Cabernets thrive in moderate warm climates. Our Geographe Cabernet Sauvignon is located on the Northern aspect of the block taking advantage of the slope and well drained Loamy gravel soil.

We enjoy the flexibility and luxury of producing a medium fruity wine full of berry flavours to bold heavy-bodied and age-worthy wines. We also blend this variety with our Cabernet Franc to produce a medium-bodied Bordeaux style wine.

Our Cabernet Sauvignon is typically macerated and plunged frequently to extract the smooth tannins, colour and flavour. It is matured under new French oak for 12-18 months. Ages gracefully.

Notes: Blackcurrant, blackberry, liquorice, mulberry, cigar box, cedar and vanilla.
Pairing: Lamb or goat, Beef, game meats such as quail, rare meat, aged cheeses which are sharp in flavour.

Zein Estate

Cabernet Franc

King of cabernet

Our Cabernet Franc fruit is a thin skinned variety typically flowering before Cabernet Sauvignon. Also know as the father of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it is cleverly positioned between these two blocks on our vineyard. It is famous in the Bourdeaux region of France. In our vineyard it thrives on the well-drained gravel and loamy soil.

Our Cabernet Franc exhibits its unique characters of a ruby colour, smooth tannins and low astringency with a good body and smooth mouth feel.

Like Bordeaux, our Geographe Cabernet Franc is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon or fermented to produce one of our monumental wine ranges.

Notes: Rasberry, blackberry, Strawberry, anise, cinnamon, vanilla.
Pairing: Roasted Beef, Lean meats, Rich tomato-based pastas, Casseroles, Hard cheeses.

Zein Estate

Merlot

Soft & silky

Our varietal clone produces rich, soft velvety fruit on large loose bunches. Our wines from the merlot block are less tanic than Cabernet Sauvignon with a soft and silky mouth feel. A mouth “attack” of flavour engulfs your taste senses with the first sip of our Merlot.

Our Geographe Merlot wines are versatile and the wine making process can be a blank canvas from which we are able to blend to produce early release and easy drinking wines for everyday drinking, to more complex and age-worthy wines to enjoy years ahead.

Notes: plum, black cherries, raspberries, blueberries, dark chocolate
Pairing: cold meats, roast chicken, grilled beef, pasta, curry and rice dishes.
